To: All Woodbridge families who have a son/daughter currently on active duty in the U.S. military. T. Nulty Post 471 holds a Blue Star Family Discussion Group at our Post Home at 25 Brown Ave. Iselin, NJ on the LAST TUESDAY of every month from 7-9PM. Please read the below for information.
Post 471’s sole purpose is to bring together those families who have sons/daughters/husbands/wives currently serving in the US military. The basic format is an informal roundtable setting to discuss mutual needs and concerns with each other. Post 471 thus far has been able to assist in obtaining information from guests from NJ Dept. Of Veterans Affairs, Middlesex County Veterans Affairs Council, the Lawrenceville and Somerset Family Assistance Centers, as well as other American Legion national, state, and county offices to give to the Blue Star Family Discussion Group. The information packets given to our Blue Star families has been very informative and valuable to them. We currently have over 120 links on our website, www.tnultypost471.org to help families who have questions and concerns. These links are for all branches of our Armed Forces, and have been an extremely valuable resource for the families of those serving.
For those families who had thought previously that this type of information or support was not available to you, please attend and meet with your fellow Blue Star families---a wonderful and heroic group of people who have bonded with each other and speak regularly to help and support each other as well. Many of these families have had sons and daughters who served in Iraq, and come to the meetings to help those members with newly deployed family members. There is no set agenda, the evening is for the families to discuss concerns ranging from possible financial assistance, non-boarding passes to greet their son/daughters upon their return, for schooling upon their return, income tax filing information, drivers license renewal information, to places to buy items their sons/daughters need at discount prices, to comparing notes on the Family Readiness Groups for those serving, or about to serve, in Iraq/Afghanistan. The families in attendance speak freely and ask each other questions during their meetings and are able to do so since their is no dais, no microphones, no moderator. Only families such as yourselves who need information and a place to discuss concerns in an informal and friendly atmosphere with similarly situated families.
What started out in May 2007 at the Woodbridge Township Support the Troops rally with three families, now has seventy families in the greater Woodbridge area, and you may have seen or heard our Blue Star Family Support Group on two occasions on the Veterans Roundtable on WCTC radio, marching in both recent Woodbridge Veterans Day and Christmas Parades, and both recent Colonia Pride Day Parades, and supporting all veterans activities in the area.
Meeting dates for the Blue Star Family Support Group are on the LAST TUESDAY of every month at 7PM.
Light refreshments will be available.
Please Remember – THEY ALSO SERVE WHO STAND AND WAIT !!!!!!!!!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE SOMETHING
FOR THE WELCOME HOME BOXES
Dear Merchant or Prospective Donor,
Post 471 established a Blue Star Family Support Group in June 2007 for the families of those serving in our Armed Forces to meet once a month to discuss mutual issues affecting all of those currently on active duty. Most of these families have raised their sons/daughters in the greater Woodbridge area. The Blue Star Support Group will be approaching local merchants for support for the “Welcome Home Packets”, which will be given to each veteran returning from Iraq or Afghanistan or overseas when they are home on leave. We have already received commitments from some merchants with a meal discount at local restaurants for the veteran only, a donation of gift certificates by the Hess Corporation, discounted temporary gym memberships, etc. ---things a veteran can do on a date or by himself or herself while home on leave from the rigors of serving our country in Iraq or Afghanistan or overseas.
We would appreciate your assistance in a donation of your choice to this endeavor, so that the veteran will be able to not only have several choices while home on leave, but also be reminded of the giving and caring nature of the local Woodbridge/Middlesex County Area Merchants. You may wish to issue your own gift certificates as the Hess Corp. has done, donate a percentile off of the retail price, etc. whichever is easiest for you. We have commitments from area restaurants and are aware that a donation of a meal for the veteran only will not include alcoholic beverages. All Merchants/Donors will be mentioned not only in Post 471’s Newsletter, but also on our two-time award winning Post 471 website! This is a great incentive for receiving repeat business from the veteran’s Blue Star Family Support Group Family as well as Post & Unit 471 members to thank our donors!
The Welcome Home Packets will be distributed only to the Iraq/Afghanistan/Overseas veteran while home on mid-tour or end of tour leave, and the veteran will present their military ID or leave orders for verification. Tax exempt ID number will also be made available upon request. Thank you in advance for helping to honor our local veterans for their dedicated service to our great country.
